Services

Managing Services

Services define what you offer, how much you charge, how long appointments take and who can book. Every service is one of four types, and the type is fixed once you create it.

Updated 27 September 2026 - 5 min read

You create Initial, Regular, Stay and Add-on services on Services. Puppy school, scentwork and other multi-lesson group programmes are courses, and prepaid bundles are packages. Each of those is created on its own page, not with Add New > New Service.

Service types

Each type books and bills in its own way.

Create a service

Create a service for each thing you sell at its own price or length, such as a groom, a walk or a training session. Nothing is created until the last step.

  1. Open Services, select Add New, then New Service.
  2. On Basic Info, enter the Service Name and choose the Service Type.
  3. Pick a Category, enter the Description and the Short Description, then select Next.
  4. On Pricing & Timing, enter the Price you usually charge and choose the Duration the service takes, then select Next. A Stay service asks for its Pricing Mode and rate here instead.
  5. Optional: on Image, add the Service Image, then select Next.
  6. On Team & Resources, choose Required, Optional or Not used under Team Members, and pick who can perform the service.
  7. Select Create Service.

Petboost creates the service as a draft, marked Staff Only on Services. Your team can book it, and customers cannot see it until you turn on online booking for it.

Find and open a service

Services lists every service with its type, price and duration, a Self-Service or Staff Only badge, and its Rules.

  1. Open Services.
  2. To find a service, type in the search box. It matches the service name, category, type and description.
  3. To see archived services, open Filters and switch on Include Archived Services.
  4. Select Manage on the service, then Manage Service.

The settings menu beside Add New holds Reorder, Pricing Assistant, Manage Categories, Bulk Update Services, Image Gallery, Export as CSV, Print Price List and Link Prefill Builder, and on a wide screen Bulk Edit Grid.

Stay services

A Stay service bills by the Pricing Mode you set on Pricing & Payments.

  • Number of nights: midnights crossed × Rate per night. A one-night stay costs the same whether check-in is 09:00 or 16:00. A same-day visit uses Daycare rate (same-day stays) when you set one.
  • Number of days: every calendar day the pet is on site × Standard Daily Rate, with arrival and departure days both charged. Friday to Monday is 4 days.
  • Duration-based: hours from check-in to check-out, in 24-hour periods, with optional short-stay and spillover rates. A later pickup costs more because it adds hours.

Every mode can add Extended Stay Discounts, so a longer stay costs less per night, day or 24-hour period. If you do not pick a mode, the service uses Duration-based.

Set arrival and departure rules on Duration & Timing, under Check-in & Check-out Windows. Windows bind pet owners, and staff can still override them on New Stay. Windows do not add a late fee.

See the Service Pricing Guide and Stay Check-in and Check-out Windows.

Start simple

If you are setting up for the first time, start with 5 to 10 core services, such as your grooms, walks or training sessions, and add more as you need them. Too many services overwhelm customers.

  • Name services clearly, such as "Full Groom (Large Dogs)" rather than "Service A"
  • Add a size variant when the price or the duration differs significantly
  • Turn on online booking for most services
  • Use add-ons for optional extras
  • Avoid "varies" as a price. Switch on "From" pricing instead
  • Do not underestimate durations, because a booking that runs over causes scheduling conflicts
