Customers & Pets

Tags

Tags are free-text labels you add to a pet or to its owner, such as vip, daycare regular or referred by sarah. You create them yourself to organise and find your records.

Unlike pet attributes, which are structured, colour-coded care information, tags are plain text labels you create for any purpose. Petboost provides a shared care library of attributes, and your business can create custom attributes with its own colour and icon. Tags stay lightweight labels for pets and owners, such as "vip", "daycare regular" or "referred by sarah".

How tags work

  • A tag is free text: type anything you like
  • Petboost stores every tag in lower case, so "VIP" becomes "vip"
  • Tags are shared across your business. Once a tag is on one pet, it is suggested for other pets and owners
  • A pet or an owner can have up to 20 tags. At 20, the field reads Max 20 tags
  • Each tag can be up to 50 characters long

Add a tag to a pet

  1. Open Customers & Pets and select Manage on the pet.
  2. On the Petprint card, select the field on the Tags row. An empty field reads Tag followed by the pet's name.
  3. Start typing. Tags your business already uses appear as suggestions.
  4. Select a suggestion, or select Create with the tag you typed. To add it without the list, type a comma after the tag.

To remove a tag, select the cross on it. The tag comes off that pet straight away.

Add a tag to an owner

Owner tags belong to the pet owner rather than one pet, so they are shared across all of that owner's pets.

  1. Open Customers & Pets and select Manage on one of the owner's pets.
  2. Open the Pet & Owner Details tab.
  3. Under Owner Tags, select the field. An empty field reads Tag followed by the owner's first name.
  4. Type the tag, then select a suggestion or Create.

To remove an owner tag, select the cross on it.

Tag a pet or owner from an appointment

  1. Open the appointment from Appointments.
  2. In the pet or owner details, select the pencil beside the tags, or Add tags when there are none.
  3. In Tags for the pet or owner, add or remove tags in the field.

Find pets by tag

  1. Open Customers & Pets and select Filter.
  2. In Filter Pets, under Tags, select the tag.

Tags lists pet tags and owner tags together. The number beside each tag counts the pets that carry it, on the pet itself or through its owner.

Where tags appear

  • The panel beside the profile's tabs shows the pet's tags under Pet Tags and the owner's under Owner Tags, for reference only. You edit them on the tabs
  • The Petprint card, on the pet's Petprint tab, has the Tags row, where you add and remove the pet's tags
  • Pet & Owner Details has Owner Tags, where you add and remove the owner's tags
  • The appointment shows both the pet's and the owner's tags, and you can change them there

Tag suggestions

When you open a tag field, Petboost suggests tags already used across your business. This keeps your tagging consistent: once one pet is tagged "daycare regular", the same tag is suggested for other pets and owners. The suggestions narrow as you type.
