Lesson 28

Team and operations

Finding anything, and changing a lot of it at once

A pet that has vanished is almost always archived. A grid that looks short almost always has a filter on. Both leave a mark you can read.

Two questions come up constantly and have the same answer. "Where has this dog gone?" and "why is this list short?" are both a filter doing exactly what it was set to do.

Every list in Petboost defaults to the active records. Archived ones are still there, still searchable, and one radio button away.

Widen the list before you doubt it

On Customers & Pets, the first group under Filter is the one that matters: Show Archived Pets, set to Active Only.

  1. Open Customers & Pets and select Filter.
  2. Under Show Archived Pets, choose All.

With All chosen, the dog reappears with an Archived badge. Nothing was deleted, and the owner, the history and the balances came with it.

Tip

Search matches a mobile number as well as a name. Pasting the number from a missed call finds a client whose name you never caught.

Change forty services without opening forty pages

The grid behind Bulk Edit Grid, in the settings menu on Services, is a spreadsheet over your catalogue. Four controls sit above it and each leaves a rose dot when it is doing something.

  1. Open Services, then the settings menu, and select Bulk Edit Grid.
  2. Select Filter to narrow the rows to the services you are changing.
  3. Select Fields to hide the columns you are not working on.
  4. Edit the cells you want to change.

Fields hides columns you are not working on, Filter narrows the rows, Sort and Group by arrange them. None of them changes any data. Bulk Edit Grid only appears in the settings menu when the window is wide enough to show your services as a list.

Check

A grid that looks like it is missing services has a filter on. The rose dot on the Filter trigger is the only sign once the panel is closed.

Read the change set before you publish it

Editing a cell marks it and saves nothing. Publish Changes is the write, and it shows you the whole set first.

  1. On Bulk Edit Grid, select Publish Changes beside the count of changes.
  2. If a card chips a field you did not expect, select Cancel and fix the cell.
  3. Select the Publish button, which counts the changes.

Each card names one service and chips every field you touched on it. Until you confirm, nothing has left the browser, and Discard All beside Publish Changes throws the whole set away.

Tip

Publishing runs one service at a time on purpose, so a catalogue of two hundred takes a few minutes. Leave the tab open until it finishes.
