Friends & foes

Record which pets get on and which must be kept apart. Foes set to Keep apart cannot be booked into the same room or with the same team member at the same time without a staff override. Staff only; pet owners never see it.

Friends & foes records which pets play well together and which must not share a room, yard, run or team member. It is staff only. Pet owners never see a pet's friends or foes, on their profile, in the booking form, in report cards or in any message.

A link always works both ways. When you add Max as a foe of Rex, Rex shows as a foe of Max too, with the same setting and note.

Foe modes

Each foe has one of two modes. The mode applies to the pair.

ModeWhat it does
Keep apartWhoever is booked second into the same room or with the same team member, at an overlapping time, is blocked. Staff can book anyway.
Label onlyShows an amber warning when they're booked together. Nothing is blocked.

A new foe starts as Keep apart.

First booked wins

Keep apart never moves or cancels a booking that already exists. The pet booked first keeps its place, and the check runs on the second booking:

  • Staff bookings: saving asks Keep these pets apart? Select Book anyway to keep the booking.
  • Online bookings: the pet owner is never shown a time or room that would put the two pets together. If no other room or team member is free, that time does not appear. The owner is not told why.

Padding before and after a service counts, the same as for other capacity rules. Two foes in different rooms with different team members at the same time is allowed.

Friends

When a friend is booked the same day, you'll get a suggestion to put them together. Friends never block or change a booking.

Add friends and foes to a pet

  1. Open Customers & Pets, select Manage on the pet, then the Settings & Overrides tab.
  2. In Friends & foes, search for a pet under Friends or Foes and select it. Petboost saves the link straight away.
  3. Optional: For a foe, choose Keep apart or Label only.
  4. Optional: For a foe, enter a note for staff and select Save note.

To remove a link, select the remove button beside the pet. To move a pet from Friends to Foes, or back, pick it in the other list and confirm. A pet is a friend or a foe, never both.

The profile header shows how many foes and friends a pet has. Select a count to open Friends & foes. Archived pets are left out of the counts.

Where staff see them

Staff see friends and foes in these places:

  • Booking form: under each pet, a red alert when a Keep apart foe is already booked in the same room or with the same team member at that time, an amber alert for a Label only foe, and a suggestion for each friend booked that day. Select Put together to copy the friend's start time, room and team member.
  • Mission Control: the Attention Required card shows a Keep apart count, or Foes together when every clash is Label only. Select it to list the bookings, then select a booking to open it.
  • Calendar and Mission Control cards: a red icon for Keep apart, or amber for Label only, on a booking that shares a room or team member with a foe at the same time.
  • Run sheet, on screen and printed: a Keep apart from or Foe line, when that foe is on the same sheet and booked alongside.
  • Trips: a Keep apart from or Foe line on a walk that holds two foes.

A clash can still appear after a staff override, or when a link is added after both pets were booked. The marks stay until one of the bookings moves or the link changes.
