A standing booking that came back daily, and a Monday moved to Tuesday that left the old Mondays sitting on the calendar. Recurring series cause more "something disappeared" calls than anything else here, and nearly all of them trace back to the pattern picked when the series was created, or the scope picked when it was changed.
The pattern is the series
- Open Appointments, select New, then Appointment.
- Under Create, choose Recurring, then choose the pet and its services.
- Under How often, choose Weekly and tick the days under Which days?, or choose Daily or Fortnightly.
- Under End, choose No End Date, After a number of visits, or End Date.
- Set the time of the first visit.
- Answer Notify customer?, then select Create Recurring Series.
How often is stored as a rule rather than a list of dates, and that rule is what keeps refilling the book. Daily with weekends off still means every weekday, so a client who comes on two days belongs on Weekly with those two ticked. The white dot on the SUN to SAT row marks the day the first visit falls on, and Petboost will not save a series whose first visit sits on a day you have not ticked.
Trap
Fortnightly repeats the same days every second week, so the week in between stays empty. A client who wants Mon and Tue one week then Mon, Tue and Fri the next needs two bookings, one Weekly and one Fortnightly, not one clever pattern.
A break is a date range, not a pause button
- Open any visit in the series from Appointments.
- Select Manage, then Cancel.
- Choose Skip these dates, then set Start from on the first missed day and Stop at on the last.
- Answer Notify customer?, then select Skip these dates.
There is no Pause. A holiday is Cancel on any visit in the series, then Skip these dates, with Start from on the first missed day and Stop at on the last. The summary counts what it will remove and names the date the series comes back, which is the line to read before you confirm.
| What you pick | What happens to the series |
|---|---|
| Cancel single | One visit goes and the series runs on |
| Skip these dates with Stop at set | The window clears and the series resumes after it |
| Skip these dates with Stop at empty | Everything from the start date goes and the series ends |
| End series (all future) | Everything from that date goes and nothing is generated again |
Trap
Separate weekdays are usually separate series, and so is a second dog. Skipping one does nothing to the others, which is why the amber panel lists them and leaves every box unticked.
Changing the days ends one series and starts another
- Open any visit in the series from Appointments, then select Manage and Edit all future visits.
- Under How often, change the days under Which days?.
- Answer Notify customer?, then select Update All Future Appointments.
- Read Confirm Day Change, then select Confirm Day Change.
- To see the old schedule, open Customers & Pets, select Manage on the pet, then Appointments and Recurring Series.
To move a standing booking off its old days, open any visit in the series, choose All future visits, change How often, then read Confirm Day Change before saving. The rule is not rewritten in place. The old schedule ends with its future visits archived and a new one starts, which is why those days show up here under Ended Series rather than vanishing. A series also belongs to a pet rather than the customer, so a sibling's is hidden until the toggle at the top is on.
Check
100% Cancelled Series is where a cancelled booking that reappeared overnight comes from. Every visit was cancelled but the rule never got an end date, so the nightly job can still refill it, and Deactivate is the only control that closes it.
