Somebody rings in October wanting Kiwi in from the fifth to the twenty-fourth. This is that stay, from the form to the figure you quote her, on the three screens it actually touches.
A stay is a date range, on its own form
A stay is not a long appointment. New Stay, under Quick Actions in the sidebar, opens a three-step form, and the middle step is the whole shape of it.
- In the sidebar, open Quick Actions and select New Stay.
- On Pets & Services, choose the pet and the stay service, then select Continue.
- On Timing, set Check-in Date, Check-in Time, Check-out Date and Check-out Time, then select Continue.
- On Review, select the Book Stay for button, which names the pets.
Four fields: a check-in date and time, a check-out date and time. Everything between the two is the stay, which is why nineteen nights is the same amount of typing as one.
The times are not decoration. They are what the check-in and check-out windows on the stay service are compared against, and a check-in outside the window is where the amber warning on this step comes from.
Tip
If the two dates match, the form changes under you: a green Same Day badge appears and a Recurring Stay toggle turns up, because a same-day stay is a day visit and day visits repeat.
Price it before she is off the phone
Pricing Preview sits on the stay service's Pricing & Payments tab, under the rate cards, so you can price a stay without making one.
- Open Services, then Manage on the stay service and Manage Service.
- On Pricing & Payments, under Pricing Preview, select Try it Out.
- Set Stay Duration and Number of Pets, then read Pricing Breakdown.
Set the duration and the pet count, and Pricing Breakdown names every period it charged and the rate it used. The panel opens on 1 day 8 hours, which is the call that comes in most: a day period at the standard rate plus a spillover charged at the day-visit rate, not a second full day.
Wind it up to nineteen days and read the segments. That is the number to quote, because this panel runs the same calculation the booking runs.
Check
Add the second dog before you quote. A multi-pet rate is a rate per pet rather than money off the total, so two dogs for nineteen nights is not twice one dog for nineteen nights.
Then Christmas Day lands in the middle
A stay that runs across a public holiday is charged the holiday rate for the nights that fall on one.
- Open Public Holidays and switch on Holiday pricing.
- Set the Type and the amount, then read the line under the amount.
- Select Apply Holidays, then confirm with the Apply button in Apply Public Holidays, which counts the holidays.
Switch the card to Public holiday and read the line under the amount. A fixed amount on a stay is charged per night, per pet; a percentage is charged per night on the average nightly rate. Neither is charged once for the booking, which is the part that surprises people about a long weekend, let alone a fortnight.
Public holidays and special dates take priority over the weekday rate on the same date, so a Saturday that is also a holiday is charged once, at the holiday rate.
Tip
Date-based rates at the top of the stay service's own Pricing & Payments tab lists every rate that reaches it, and the Set in column names the page that owns each one. Start there when she queries the invoice in January.
