Lesson 106

Bookings and the calendar

The temperament test as the gate

The test is a service that locks another service, so it is set on the service rather than on the dog. It also never reaches the calendar, which is why nobody can find it.

3 min read · Owner · Getting set up

No dog joins the floor without an assessment, and no owner should be able to book a full day before one. Both halves of that are one setting, and it lives on the day rather than on the dog.

Make the test a service

The test is a booking like any other, so it is a service first.

  1. Open Services, select Add New, then New Service.
  2. Enter the Service Name, then under Service Type choose Initial, or Regular for the precise rule below.
  3. Select Next through the remaining steps, then Create Service.

Initial is the type for it: new clients have to book it before other services, and existing clients skip it once you turn the requirement off for them. Pick the type carefully, because it cannot be changed after the service is created.

Tip

Initial on its own is the blunt version, and it gates everything. If you run half days that a new dog is welcome to try, leave the test Regular and use the precise rule below instead.

Lock the day behind it

Service Prerequisite sits on the day's Who Can Book tab, under Advanced options.

  1. Open Services, then Manage on the daycare day and Manage Service.
  2. On Who Can Book, switch on Advanced options.
  3. Under Service Prerequisite, switch on Require Prerequisite Service and choose the test, adding the meet and greet if either one should open the day.
  4. Under What counts as met, choose Booked or Completed.
  5. With two services chosen, leave How they combine on its first card, Has booked any or Has completed any.
  6. Select Publish Changes, tick the box in Before You Publish, then select Publish Changes.

Two services in the picker brings How they combine up, which is what lets a dog that did the full test or the meet and greet through without doing both. Leave it on the first card, which reads Has completed any, or Has booked any once Booked is chosen, and either one opens the day.

What counts as met is the other half. Completed means the assessment has to have happened; Booked lets a dog whose test is on Thursday book the following Monday, which is the setting most daycare floors want.

Tip

One dog who did this at their old daycare does not need the rule loosened for everyone. Open the pet's Settings & Overrides tab, choose Add override on its prerequisite overrides and set it to Satisfied. The card says This pet only, and it means it.

See why she says she cannot book

A prerequisite never reaches the calendar, so no amount of staring at the roster will show you it.

  1. Open Customers & Pets and select Manage on the pet.
  2. Select Simulate, then Booking Experience.

Services come before times, and a locked service carries a blue Prerequisite First badge on its tile, which is where the client is stuck.

Check

Scroll the service carousel before you conclude anything. Petboost pushes whatever unlocks a blocked service to the front, so the test appears ahead of the day it gates, and an owner who scrolled past it is looking at the answer.
