The conversation nobody wants is the one at the door about a coat that needs an extra half hour. The version of it that works happens when the booking is made, because the extra time and the extra money are already on the slot.
That takes an attribute with properties on it. A label will not do it.
Build the attribute, and decide who sees it
The library is at Pet Attributes. A row is a name, a care group, and who the row is visible to.
- Open Pet Attributes and select Add New.
- Enter the Attribute Name and choose an Icon.
- Under Care Type, choose General, Minor care or Major care.
- Under Visibility, choose Business Only or Pet Owner & Business, then select Create Attribute.
Double coat sits in Minor care, and the care group is what fixes its colour: a Minor care row is the system amber whatever anyone picks. The Properties badge on that row is the part that matters here, and it means the attribute changes a booking rather than describing one.
Visible to is the setting people miss. Pet Owner & Business puts the row on the owner's own view of their dog, which is right for a coat type they already know about. A handling note belongs on Business Only.
Give it an effect
An attribute with properties carries them onto every booking of the dog that has it.
- Open Pet Attributes.
- Under Booking Properties, select Add Booking Properties.
- Under Applies to attributes, choose the attribute.
- Set any of Price adjustment, Duration change and Attendance cap, then select Add Booking Properties.
Three kinds. Duration moves the slot, money moves the price, and capacity caps how many pets carrying the attribute can be in at the same time. Amber is an increase and green is a reduction, so Puppy first groom taking fifteen minutes off reads differently from Double coat adding thirty.
Check
The capacity kind is the Attendance cap, and it is the one people forget to model because it costs no money. A Business-wide maximum of 1 means only one pet carrying the attribute can be booked in at a time.
Read it on the booking before you save
Put the attribute on the pet, then open a booking for that dog.
- Open Customers & Pets and select Manage on the dog.
- On the pet's card, select Add attributes, or the pencil beside its attributes, tick the attribute in Edit Attributes, then select Save.
- Open Appointments, select New, then Appointment, and choose the dog and its service.
- Read the time and the price on the pet's card before you save the booking.
The card is the pet, and the services are inside it. With Double coat on Kiwi, the same Full Groom comes out at two and a half hours and at the surcharged price, and the client sees the number before they confirm rather than at the counter afterwards.
Trap
A tag cannot do any of this. Tags are for finding people later, so a dog tagged "matted" books the standard slot at the standard price and turns up needing an hour you do not have.
