Training levels as prerequisites

Level 2 is for dogs that finished Level 1, and enforcing that by memory stops working around the third intake. Two settings do it instead, and the second one has a wrinkle that only courses have.

Put the level on the dog

The library is at Pet Attributes, and a level is a row in it.

1. Open Pet Attributes and select Add New.
2. Enter the Attribute Name and choose an Icon.
3. Under Care Type, choose General, then set Visibility to Pet Owner & Business.
4. Select Create Attribute.
5. When a dog passes, open it from Customers & Pets and select Manage.
6. Select Add attributes, or the pencil beside the dog's attributes, choose the level, then select Save.

General is the right care group for a level, because it is not a handling warning. Pet Owner & Business puts it on the owner's own view of their dog, which is worth doing: a level is something they earned and something they will tell people about.

Reactive on lead underneath is the other kind of row. Business Only, and it carries Properties, so it can change the booking rather than just sitting there as a note: a Price adjustment, a Duration change, an Attendance cap on how many dogs carrying it can be in at once, or Required for these services and Blocked from these services.

Make the next course read it

Service Prerequisite sits on the next course's Who Can Book tab, under Advanced options.

1. Open Services, then Manage on the next course and Manage Service.
2. On Who Can Book, switch on Advanced options.
3. Under Service Prerequisite, switch on Require Prerequisite Service and choose the course that comes first.
4. Under What counts as met, choose Completed all sessions.
5. Select Publish Changes, tick the box in Before You Publish, then select Publish Changes.

Any service type can carry a prerequisite, so a course can gate another course. Add the second service and How they combine appears, which is what lets an assessment stand in for the foundation term. A fixed course built from a course template carries the same rule as Course Prerequisite, on the template's own Who Can Book tab.

And the rules that are not levels

Age and breed rules live on the same tab and are checked at the same moment.

1. Open Services, then Manage on the course and Manage Service.
2. On Who Can Book, switch on Advanced options.
3. Set Age Restrictions, or Included Breeds and Excluded Breeds.
4. Select Publish Changes, tick the box in Before You Publish, then select Publish Changes.

Read the amber callout twice. These rules fail closed, so a dog with no birthday on file cannot book an age-restricted course at all, and on a list imported from your old system that can be most of them.
