Switching from Vagaro

Vagaro keeps no pet record and its customer list export leaves the notes behind, so the dog is read out of each customer's notes, and a customer with no dog named arrives with a placeholder pet.

Take your customer list out of Vagaro and load it into Petboost from Customers & Pets, or hand the whole move to us.

In Vagaro, open Reports, then Customers, and choose Export to download the list as Excel or PDF. Only the business owner can export it. Clear any filters and the date range first, because the export keeps them, and with a date range set it only holds the customers you gained inside it. The file carries names, contact details, tags and visit counts, and the Birthdate and Gender columns describe the person. Your notes are not in it: Vagaro exports those one customer at a time, from each customer's Notes tab.

Petboost keeps no customer without a pet, so that file will not load as it is. To load it yourself, save the Excel file as CSV, then add each customer's dog in a column headed Pet, with the breed in brackets after the name and a comma between two dogs.

  1. Open Customers & Pets, open the gear menu and select Import Customers & Pets.
  2. Select Magic CSV Import.
  3. Add the file under CSV Files (1-2 files), then select Magic Validate.
  4. Read anything listed under Errors or Skipped, then select Import to Petboost.

An owner still needs a first name and a phone number, or the row is left out and listed under Errors or Skipped. The Import Your Data step of the Launch wizard leads to the same import through Import Customers & Pets, but only before the first client is in, and not during a trial.

On an assisted migration you can skip all of that, including the notes one customer at a time. We read the customer list and each customer's notes from your Vagaro account where Vagaro lets us, and the dog is read out of the notes: the name first, then the breed where the note names one clearly, and Mixed Breed where it does not. A note that names two dogs becomes two pets on one owner, and a note about the customer, a deposit rule or a no-show warning, never turns into a dog. A customer whose notes name no dog arrives with a placeholder pet for you to rename. The note itself stays on the pet as an internal quick note, and the blade numbers and grooming instructions in it can be lifted into attributes and grooming notes.

Nothing can come across that Vagaro never held for the dog, so a birthday, a weight or a vaccination date only arrives if someone typed it into a note. A saved card does not move to Petboost, so customers add theirs again, and past appointments stay in Vagaro. The 24 hours starts when you give us access, usually at the demo, and the switching page lists what moves and what stays behind.
