Switching from Square Appointments

One Square customer with three dogs becomes one owner and three pets, and tags, store credit, package credits and membership dates come across with them.

Take your customer directory out of Square and load it into Petboost from Customers & Pets, or hand the whole move to us.

In Square, open Customers, then the Customer directory, then Import / Export, and choose Export customers. Pick All Customers rather than a group, because a group export only holds that group, then download the CSV once Square has built it. Any custom fields you set up come out with it, which matters if you gave the dog fields of its own. Cards on file never come out in that file, and a saved card does not move to Petboost either, so clients add theirs again.

Petboost keeps no customer without a pet. Unless your file already holds the dogs in a column headed Pet, add one, with each dog's name, its breed in brackets after it, and a comma between two dogs.

  1. Open Customers & Pets, open the gear menu and select Import Customers & Pets.
  2. Select Magic CSV Import.
  3. Add the file under CSV Files (1-2 files), then select Magic Validate.
  4. Read anything listed under Errors or Skipped, then select Import to Petboost.

An owner still needs a first name and a phone number, or the row is left out and listed under Errors or Skipped. The Import Your Data step of the Launch wizard leads to the same import through Import Customers & Pets, but only before the first client is in, and not during a trial.

On an assisted migration you can skip the export. We take the customer directory from your Square account and do the splitting for you. Square Appointments keeps a customer record and no pet record, so the dog tends to live in the customer's name, something like Smith (Milo - Cavoodle), and a client with three dogs is split into one owner and three pets on the way in. A weight, an age or a sex written against the customer is turned into kilograms, a birthday, and the pet's sex and desexing, and each address is checked so the owner lands in a real suburb.

The labels you kept on a customer arrive as attributes on the pet, which is the kind of label that can change a price or a duration. Store credit comes across onto the owner's profile as Account Balance Credit, a figure the owner can see that never comes off a bill by itself. Package credits keep their count and memberships keep their next billing date. Cards cannot move, so each member adds theirs in Petboost before that date, or the membership ends. The 24 hours starts when you give us access, usually at the demo, and the switching page lists what moves and what stays behind.

Tip

To hand the move to us instead, select We move it for you in 24 hours at step 2.
